Almudena Bernabéu at the Nuremberg Forum 2018
Updated: Dec 7, 2018
Almudena Bernabéu, co-director of The Guernica Centre for International Justice and Principal of The Guernica Group, took part in the Nuremberg Forum 2018, entitled “20th Anniversary of the Rome Statute: Law, Justice and Politics”, which took place on 19 and 20 October 2018 in the historic Courtroom 600 in Nuremberg.
On behalf of The Guernica Group, we would like to thank the International Nuremberg Principles Academy for organising such an important event, which gathered International Criminal Justice practitioners from all over the world to jointly reflect on the 20 years of history of the Rome Statute, as well as on the challenges and successes of the International Criminal Court.

At a moment when accountability has suffered major backlashes —and deterrence for human rights violations and effective victims’ protection remain the biggest challenges—, the International Nuremberg Principles Academy gathered all of us, national and international practitioners, to learn from past experiences. We are determined to persevere in the pursuit of our mission to defend international justice through in-country and victim-centred strategies, a double approach that, during the conference, was considered fundamental to re-shape future justice procedures and mechanisms. Guernica is thus grateful for the opportunity to participate in this discussion and contribute to the international conversation about the cosmopolitan principles of Justice.
