From the 19-20 October 2018, Almudena Bernabéu, Principal of The Guernica Group and co-director of The Guernica Centre for International Justice, will participate in the Nuremberg Forum 2018, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Rome Statute.
This major annual conference is organised by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy:

Mrs. Bernabéu will be part of the Fifth Panel, on the “Exercise of jurisdiction and complementarity within the Rome Statute”, alongside Prosecutor Brenda J. Hollis, from the Residual Special Court for Sierra Leone; Christian Ritscher, from the Office of the German Federal Public Prosecutor General; and Phakiso Mochochoko, from the International Criminal Court. The Panel will be chaired by Professor Jens Meierhenrich, professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Description of the event
The Nuremberg Forum 2018 will pay tribute to the 20th Anniversary of the Rome Statute and will critically evaluate the past 20 years while also looking at the next 20 years in terms of practice and the ever-changing landscape of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC has seen many “firsts” in the last 20 years in terms of law, procedure and practice. The planned conference will offer a specific focus while addressing important challenges and critiques that have remained unresolved or have newly emerged in the context of the permanent court.
By analyzing the interplay between law, justice and politics, the Nuremberg Forum 2018 aims to examine key aspects and developments at the ICC. By providing this forum for critical reflections and discussions, the Nuremberg Academy aims to put the fundamental tenets of the Nuremberg Principles at the core of the discussions and assess the advancement and illuminate the development of international criminal law.
To mark the 20th Anniversary of the Rome Statute, the Nuremberg Academy will bring together more than 30 high-level international experts, practitioners and scholars from the field.
